CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Hundreds of flight delays and cancellations created a frustrating travel day for people at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport on Sunday.
By the end of Sunday, the airport had seen nearly 600 delayed flights and just over 100 cancellations.
Around the airport, travelers could be seen sitting and researching for other flights. Some said they had to spend a fortune on an alternative option.
“Logistically, it’s a nightmare -- but also financially," Megan Chulkas said. "The refund from American is seven to 10 business days but I have to go ahead and purchase from Delta. It’s a major expense and a logistical nightmare."
Others, like Maya Burnett, told WCNC Charlotte they had to reach out to people nearby who could drive in and pick them up. A few other travelers say they were stuck due to lost luggage.
As of Monday morning at 10:20 a.m., there had been 96 total delays and 38 total cancellations at the airport.
