Frontier Airlines dropping Charlotte flights

Frontier Airlines is making big changes to its network and it's going to impact Charlotte's airport.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Frontier Airlines is getting ready to drop several routes out of Charlotte Douglas International Airport after previously announcing plans to increase service.

The first destination getting cut is the nonstop flight to Trenton, New Jersey. Direct flights from Charlotte to New Orleans are also reportedly being cut.

The airline says these are two of more than 30 routes that are expected to be eliminated. According to aviation industry website The Points Guy, the low-cost airline is removing 43 total routes impacting airports across the country. The most impacted cities will be Cleveland, Orlando and Philadelphia.

In April, Frontier announced plans to offer nonstop flights from Charlotte to Cincinnati. The Denver-based airline also plans to add nonstop service to Boston from the Queen City, as well as flights to Miami.

Frontier's decision to drop certain Charlotte flights comes about a week after JetBlue said it would leave Charlotte Douglas altogether this fall, citing a lack of customer demand and underperformance.
