Rush continues at airports, on the roads ahead of the holidays

Charlotte Douglas International Airport hasn't seen many delays, but many travelers are preparing for the worst.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — This weekend's wet weather didn't cause serious traffic jams or flight delays in the Charlotte region, but it did cause problems across the nation.

Charlotte Douglas International Airport only had a few flight delays, but Cedric Mitchell found the experience smooth when he dropped his daughter off at the airport.

"Everything seems to be going smooth at the airport," Mitchell said. I'm surprised."

He wanted to get to the airport early after seeing news reports of large lines and his other daughter facing large crowds at the airport a few days ago.

His daughter's Sunday flight to D.C. was only slightly delayed.

"Maybe five to ten minutes behind time," he said. "But for Christmastime, that's good."

However, it hasn't been as smooth along highways in Charlotte and across the nation, including a 69-car pile-up in Virginia.

Matthews Fire and EMS shared a Facebook post describing how firefighters and paramedics working a crash along I-485 saw drivers texting and taking videos of the crash, which increased the risk of a second crash.

The department asked drivers to put down your phones and remain focused on your driving.
