Passenger reflects on frustrating flight from Charlotte to Hilton Head

One passenger told WCNC Charlotte when they got close to Hilton Head, the plane didn't even try to land.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Holiday travel can be difficult, and like most big travel weeks, there are likely to be some headaches. But when it comes to the "worst flight of the week," some think that might have been a recent trip from Charlotte Douglas International Airport to Hilton Head Island Airport.

FlightAware data shows the Envoy Air flight left just after 11 a.m. on Christmas Day. One passenger told WCNC Charlotte when they got close to Hilton Head, the plane didn't even try to land.

Passengers then got several excuses from the crew, the passenger told WCNC Charlotte, saying things like the plane was too heavy and the runway was too wet and too short, so the plane was diverted to Charleston.

”There was lack of communication and nobody really knew what was going on," the passenger said. "We sit in Row 1, always do when we fly here, and when we landed, landing was fine, landed -- still nothing from the pilot. The door opens, and there's like multiple ground crew people at the door going 'What's your emergency?'”

After a while in Charleston, they then tried to get back to Hilton Head. The passenger told WCNC Charlotte the plane was about to land when it started to lift again multiple times, making a very bumpy and uncomfortable ride. It then turned around and went back to Charleston for a second time.

It didn't end when the plane finally landed.

"As soon as the door opened, a woman came walking up to the front, she goes, 'I have to get off, I have to get off,'" the passenger said. "She collapsed in the doorway. Then they finally took her off.”

The plane left from Charleston and returned to Charlotte, six hours after it was supposed to land in Hilton Head.

WCNC Charlotte reached out to American Airlines, which owns Envoy Air, for comment but has yet to hear back by the publishing of this article.
