CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Planning to travel this year? So are a lot of people.
The founder and chief flight expert for Going, Scott Keyes, released his predictions for 2024.
The "good" list includes the expectation that the average airfare won't swing in either direction more than five percent. Keyes wrote, that in 2022, airfare increased 36%, then went down 12 % in 2023.
Keyes, with 70% confidence, indicated that he expects in 2024, airfare will be back to pre-pandemic levels.
Another prediction centers around flight cancellations, which Keyes, reported with 60% confidence, that will be under 2% for the year. He pointed out that the pilot shortage should be eased, allowing for planes in the air.
With 90% confidence, Going predicted change fees for non-basic economy tickets will not come back. Such fees were eliminated in the fall of 2020 to try and get travelers back.
On the "bad" list is a prediction that bag fees will increase on at least two U.S. airlines, going from $30 to $35.
