Rent a treehouse or Hobbit home for the night in this North Carolina city

One man's farm purchase turned into a fantasy retreat.

CHINA GROVE, N.C. — Remember that treehouse from your childhood? Or remember the first time you wanted to drink tea in a cozy Hobbit hole? Both of those nostalgic fantasies can become reality in Rowan County, North Carolina.

Less than an hour's drive northeast of Charlotte sits the city of China Grove. That's where Trent Cherry decided to buy a farm and convert it into a unique place to get away from it all.

He built eight treehouses and two Hobbit homes which people can rent to stay at his "Treesort."

"We built them in the trees," Cherry said. "When the wind is blowing, you can feel that you are in a treehouse."

Cherry always loved the hospitality industry, so when he got tired of working his job in the racing industry, he decide to invest in his Treesort dream. Cherry said he built each treehouse and Hobbit home with a purpose and a certain uniqueness to it.
