CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte area saw even more rain Thursday but much-needed dry weather is on the way after flash flooding this week, chief meteorologist Brad Panovich said.
As we get toward the end of the ugly week, Panovich says everyone should remain Weather Aware due to the saturated ground being more prone to downed trees and flooding.
BRAD PANOVICH: How to be more Weather Aware
Panovich said Charlotte and the Carolinas had another day or so of rain Thursday before things totally dry out, as the low-pressure system begins to shift east.
By Friday morning, Panovich expects drier air to move in. This won't stop the rain entirely, but it will push heavy downpours out of the area.
"There's going to be a lot more breaks on Friday, which is good news for at least getting something done outside and not the constant downpours," Panovich said.
There will be some scattered showers and storms Friday night but the rain will pretty much be gone by Saturday morning. This will set the stage for a pleasant and mostly dry weekend in the Carolinas.
"Saturday's more of your typical summer pattern," Panovich said. "Just isolated thunderstorms, none of the widespread stuff."
Temperatures Saturday will be in the upper 80s, so it'll be a great day to enjoy the outdoors. Sunday will be similar with temperatures in the 80s and the chance of isolated showers and storms.
