To avoid freezing temperatures, 49ers baseball game to start early Tuesday

The National Weather Service issued a freeze warning because of the forecast overnight low of 30 degrees.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The cold temperatures prompted the Charlotte 49ers to reschedule their Tuesday baseball game.

Charlotte 49ers Athletics announced the baseball game against No. 18 North Carolina at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte's Hayes Stadium will begin at 6 p.m. instead of 7 p.m.

"A decision was made Monday morning to move first pitch up an hour to avoid colder temperatures later in the night," Joe Templin, the Assistant Director of Media Relations, said in a released statement.

At 6 p.m., the WCNC Charlotte weather team is forecasting a temperature of 55 degrees. By 9 p.m., the temperature is expected to have dropped below 50 degrees.

The National Weather Service issued a freeze warning because of the forecast overnight low of 30 degrees. Overnight low temperatures are expected to be below freezing Tuesday and Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the Hayes Stadium gates and ticket office will now open at 4:30 p.m.

Standing-room-only tickets are still available online or by contacting the 49ers Ticket Office at 704-687-4949.

As with normal games at Hayes Stadium, parking will be available to the public in the CRI Deck. Different for Tuesday's matchup with UNC, there will be a parking services staff member present at the CRI Deck. This eliminates the need for validation kiosks at the stadium.

Fans are reminded that chairs, outside food and drink, and pets are prohibited in the stadium, according to the Hayes Stadium Fan Guide.
