CHARLOTTE, N.C. — While Charlotte is enjoying some mild weather on Thursday, hazy, smoky skies over the Queen City quickly became a big talking point on social media.

The good news is it's nothing to worry about, according to Chief Meteorologist Brad Panovich

Panovich explained there are dozens of controlled burns happening across North Carolina and South Carolina, and winds are carrying the smoke through the Charlotte area.

"Winds carry the smoke very far so nothing to worry about," Panovich posted on X, the website formerly known as Twitter

The smoke and haze was visible across the Charlotte metro area with limited visibility on most of WCNC Charlotte's cameras in the area.

Thursday afternoon will be mostly cloudy with highs in the mid-upper 60s. There is the threat of scattered showers and storms overnight but most of the activity clears by midday. A few showers are expected again in the afternoon with spotty rain, clouds and cooler temperatures headed into Saturday. The system finally clears the region by Sunday.
