CHARLOTTE, N.C. — If you've been feeling a little tired lately, there's good news: You'll get an extra hour of sleep this weekend! It's actually an hour we lost back on March 10 when Daylight Saving Time began.
This weekend, Daylight Saving Time ends, so you'll have to change your clocks back one hour before you go to sleep Saturday night. Daylight Saving Time officially ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, November 3.
With the change, the sun will rise one hour earlier Sunday morning, at 6:46 a.m. The sun will also set earlier Sunday at 5:27 p.m.
Before we get there, though, it could be a stormy Halloween in the Carolinas. Chief meteorologist Brad Panovich says the rain could be more than just an inconvenience for trick-or-treaters, as there is a threat of severe weather for the Charlotte area on Halloween. Panovich expects Thursday's high to be in the mid-to-upper 70s with a 60% chance of rain. The biggest threat is likely damaging winds, Panovich said.
If you prefer the longer days that come with Daylight Saving Time, mark your calendar for March 8, 2020. That's when Daylight Saving Time begins again.
Earlier this year, North Carolina lawmakers passed House Bill 350, which would ask Congress to authorize North Carolina to stay on Daylight Saving Time year-round.
"In short, North Carolina would remain spring forward forever," explained bill sponsor Rep. Jason Saine, R-Lincoln, adding that it's the most popular bill he's ever filed.
South Carolina lawmakers filed a similar bill in May, citing concerns about children going to school in the dark during winter or South Carolina being out of sync with neighboring states if they adopt year-round Daylight Saving Time.
