CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Back-to-back record Sunday rainfall events have led to drought improvement across the Carolinas, including locally in Charlotte and Mecklenburg County.
On Sunday, Charlotte recorded 1.44 inches of rain. The previous Sunday, Charlotte recorded 2.12 inches of rain. This certainly contributed to most of Mecklenburg County getting out of a moderate drought with most of the county now only "abnormally dry."
For the entire state of North Carolina, the abnormally dry conditions dropped 32% (from 92% to 60%) over the last week. The moderate drought dropped 22% (from 53% to 31%). The severe drought dropped 3% (from 18% to 15).
