CHARLOTTE, N.C. — It's the middle of June but you'll want to grab a jacket on your way out the door Friday.

First Warn forecaster Larry Sprinkle said Charlotte set a new record low when the temperature dipped to 52 degrees. The old record of 49 was set all the way back in 1903. The normal low for this time of year is 64 degrees.

It's a welcomed brief lapse in the summer heat Charlotte's known for after a blazing hot month of May. The Queen City only hit 81 degrees for a high on Thursday afternoon and it's only expected to be about 80 Friday.

Here's a look at the forecast over the next few days.

On Friday, beautiful conditions outside with abundant sunshine and highs only in the low 80s east of the mountains, with higher elevations staying in the mid-70s. Winds will be light out of the NNW.

On Friday night, one more cool evening will be in store for the area as clear skies remain across the area. Overnight lows will drop into the mid-50s east of the mountains with mid-40s in the higher elevations.

On Saturday, mostly sunny skies remain in the area, but we will be warming up. Expect mid 80s east of the mountains with mid to upper 70s in the higher elevations. Winds will be out of the SW at 5-10 mph.

On Sunday, expect mostly sunny skies with a few more passing clouds in the area. A southwesterly flow will continue to warm the area with highs east of the mountains easily flirting with 90 degrees. The mountains will even see highs well into the 80s. Winds will be out of the SW at 5-10 mph.
