How to report a downed tree

Winds from severe storms can topple trees. If a tree is blocking a road or posing a hazard, these are the agencies to notify.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Removing a fallen tree can be hazardous. If that tree has fallen on public land, is posing an immediate danger, or is across a roadway, you can call to have the tree removed.

The city of Charlotte wants reports of fallen trees posing a hazard or blocking a road to be reported to 911. Urgent removal of these trees will ensure safety and access to roadways for emergency vehicles.

Inside the city of Charlotte,  non-emergency removal of trees can be requested on the city's website, on the city's CLT+ app or by calling 311 (which can also be reached by calling 704-336-7600).

If a tree has fallen on private property and is not posing a danger, the landowner will need to have it privately removed.

Across much of the Carolinas, Duke Energy will respond if a fallen tree has damaged power lines or a power pole. While the power company says they do not respond strictly to fallen trees, reports of power line hazards can be called into Duke Energy at 800-228-8485.
