Disaster Recovery Center opens in Catawba County

FEMA representatives can help with financial assistance for home repairs, personal loss and medical needs.

CONOVER, N.C. — A disaster recovery center has opened in Catawba County at the Conover Fire Department Station 3, which is located at 1776 Village Square Northwest.

Open daily form 8 a.m. until 7 a.m., the center offers in-person assistance from FEMA representatives. Helene storm victims can also apply for U.S. Small Business Administration low-interest disaster loans.

FEMA representatives will be there to talk with anybody impacted by Helene about any losses. FEMA financial assistance may include money for basic home repairs, personal property losses or other uninsured, disaster-related needs, such as childcare, transportation, medical needs, funeral or dental expenses.

FEMA has already opened 21 centers in North Carolina in Asheville, Bakersville, Boone, Brevard, Hendersonville, Jefferson, Lenoir, Marion, Morganton, Newland, Old Fort, Sparta, Sylva and Waynesville. There are nine centers in South Carolina.

Residents in 39 North Carolina counties and tribal members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians can visit any open center, including locations in other states. No appointment is needed.
