RALEIGH, N.C. — President Donald Trump declared that an emergency exists in the state of North Carolina on Tuesday evening. He ordered federal assistance to supplement state, tribal, and local response efforts due to Hurricane Dorian.
This authorizes the Department of Homeland Security and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to coordinate all disaster relief efforts. Officials say the purpose is to alleviate and hardship caused by Dorian for the state, and to provide assistance for emergency measures.
FEMA is authorized to identify, mobilize, and provide equipment and resources at its discretion. This is in order to alleviate impacts of Hurricane Dorian on the region.
Emergency protective measures will be provided at 75 percent Federal funding, according to a press release.
