Florence brought over 8 trillion gallons of rain to NC: National Weather Service

Florence's unofficial rainfall numbers are in from the National Weather Service, and they're as high as you think.

GREENSBORO (WFMY) - Florence has finally moved on from North Carolina, but we're still learning just how incredible this storm was.

The National Weather Service tweeted a graphic Tuesday morning showing the estimated rainfall totals throughout the state. The greater Wilmington area got a radar-estimated 30 to 50 inches of rain with areas like Morehead City and Havelock shaded in the 20-30 inches area.

Estimated total rainfall across the state from Florence? A staggering 8.04 trillion gallons!

The amounts are unofficial, but still a good look at the gravity of Florence. The storm hit as a Category 1 hurricane near Wrightsville Beach Friday morning and moved slowly across the Carolinas, leading to historic rain.
