CATAWBA, N.C. — A small earthquake was recorded in Catawba County, North Carolina, Wednesday morning.
The U.S. Geological Survey confirmed a 2.0 earthquake was reported near Catawba just before 7 a.m. on Wednesday, May 18. The USGS said the quake was recorded around 3 kilometers east-southeast of Catawba.
WCNC Charlotte chief meteorologist Brad Panovich reported shaking being detected by seismographs in western North Carolina around 7 a.m. The USGS confirmed the earthquake at 8:49 a.m.
