CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The end of 2022 is upon us after what was some of the coldest air in many years. Things have slowly been warming up, and that trend will continue into the holiday weekend.
News Year's Eve:
The day will start cloudy with scattered showers and a few heavy downpours, especially in the first half of the day, but it's not a complete washout.
The showers will become scattered by late afternoon into the evening. We should see things become dry by late evening, and by the time the clock strikes midnight, we will be mostly dry.
The temperatures will be very mild and almost balmy, with highs in the low 60s and morning lows in the 40s. The chance of rain is 80% for the first half of the day but drops to 30% by evening.
New Year's Day:
This will be a very mild day and breezy as the storm system from Saturday moves out. Highs will manage to creep into the low to mid-60s under a mix of sunshine and clouds.
The winds will be west and could be gusty at 10-15 mph.
First few days of the New Year:
More dry and warm conditions for the start of 2023. Expect sunshine and warm temperatures in the mid-60s and maybe even upper-60s.
The pattern for the first week will be very warm, with highs most of the week in the mid to upper 60s. There will be another large storm system mid-week with more rain and even the possibility of thunderstorms.
The 7-day rainfall totals could top 1-3 inches.
