MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. -- Duke Energy plans to close two boat ramps on Lake Wylie because of low water levels. Officials with the lake are also cautioning boaters of the dangers brought on by the levels.

A crew from dock masters left the Allison Creek Boat acess Tuesday with mixed feelings.

"It's liable to tear your boat up and knock the prop off of it," said Charles Blackwood, of York.

Blackwood says the low water levels on Lake Wylie slow down navigation and allow for troublesome debris to pop up.

"You can hit logs, rocks, you can hit anything out there-- there ain't no telling," said Blackwood.

Blackwood says he has to be especially careful due to drought conditions.

"You have to trim up. If you don't your motor is going to hit the bottom. There's been a few spots we've hit the bottom," said Blackwood.

Duke Energy announced Tuesday it was shutting down two ramps on the Allison Creek access. They also asked lake homeowners to voluntarily limit drawing water for irrigation.

On the positive side for Blackwood, the lower levels mean better access to get work done.

"It makes it a little bit easier to frame it up," said Blackwood.
