GREENSBORO, N.C. — Recovering from Hurricane Helene is going to be a team effort, and the North Carolina A&T University Police Department is doing its part.
The university announced Sunday that members of the University Polcie Department are on their way to UNC-Asheville to "provide necessary assistance in the catastrophic aftermath of Hurricane Helene."
One of the people traveling with the department is Travis Auman, the university's Emergency Management Director. According to a release, UNC-Asheville requested aid and it was approved by North Carolina Emergency Management.
N.C. A&T says portable batteries, generators and lighting, communication devices and electronics, first aid kits, N95 masks, nitrile gloves, hand sanitizers and disinfectants and cases of water and food are going to be taken to UNC-Asheville.
The Asheville area was one of the hardest hit Thursday and Friday by Helene. Over a foot of rain fell as a result of the storm, and our crews captured chaotic flooding scenes at multiple places.
