CHARLOTTE, N.C. â If you live in Ashe, Watauga, or Avery counties, please stay Weather Aware for light ice accumulation and wintry mix after midnight. Accumulation, if any, will be extremely limited at less than a tenth of an inch.
Although accumulation will be minimal, black ice will be a possibility early Sunday morning. This is enough to cause traffic issues like slick roadways especially on bridges and overpasses. A Winter Weather Advisory is in place from midnight to noon Sunday.
A changeover to cold rain will occur by noon Sunday but roadways, bridges, and sidewalks will still be extremely slippery. This may impact travel across the mountains throughout the day tomorrow.
Watch for a refreeze Sunday night through Monday morning, bringing another round of possible black ice.
