About an hour later, a man, woman and their dog were rescued from a home after they were trapped inside by a fallen tree, the York County Sheriff's Office said. Emergency crews worked for over an hour to free the man, who was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The man was seen giving a thumbs-up as crews lifted him out of the roof during the operation.
"Our thoughts are with him and his family as he recovers," Charlotte Fire posted on social media. "We're proud to have been part of this multi-agency effort to bring everyone to safety."
The Charlotte area saw heavy rain and gusty winds throughout the day Friday.
