Yes, it really has rained most weekends in Charlotte

Of the 15 weekends so far this year, only four of them have been dry.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — If you feel like there has been repeated rain on Charlotte weekends thus far this year, you would be correct.

Weather data reviewed by WCNC Charlotte meteorologist Chris Mulcahy confirms that more than half of rainy days in Charlotte so far this year have been on a weekend.

Of the 15 weekends through April 9, only four of them have been dry, Mulcahy confirmed. Of those weekends, there have been zero dry weekends in Charlotte this month so far and only one dry weekend last month.

Of the rainfall thus far this year, 65% of it has fallen on the weekend, according to Mulcahy.

The year has also started off slightly warmer than usual. The first 100 days of the year, which ran through Apr. 11, was the warmest start to the year on record with an average temperature of 54.4 degrees.

Through the first three months of this year, 11.32" of rain has been measured at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, where official weather observations are recorded by the National Weather Service for Charlotte, North Carolina. Over the past 20 years, Charlotte has averaged 10.35" of rain in the first three months of the year.

More rain is expected this weekend in Charlotte. Two rounds of rain Friday will give way to a partly sunny Saturday in the Queen City. However, rain returns Sunday as a cold front moves through the region.
