CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Damage was reported in the Charlotte area on the 4th of July after severe weather rolled through the region.
Rock Hill officials said several trees and power lines were down. About 1,500 outages were reported around 4 p.m. Downed trees and power lines were also reported in Cabarrus County.
In Georgetown County, S.C., one person was killed and two others were hurt after a lightning strike.
At least six severe thunderstorm warnings were in effect around 2:30 p.m. About that same time, Meteorologist Chris Mulcahy reported a possible microburst along 121 SSW of Lewis in Chester County.
A flash flood advisory was in effect for the area until 4:45 p.m.
After the storms, 4th of July revelers felt some relief from the heat.
"The rain has cooled us down BIG TIME! Areas that were in the mid 90's at this time yesterday are 20-25° cooler in the 70's right now!" said Mulcahy.
When you are outdoors in the heat, drink plenty of water and don't forget sunscreen. You could start to get a sunburn after only about 15-25 minutes if you're in direct sunlight. The difference between finding shade or not could be up to 15 degrees in the heat of the day.
