Another Camp North End business is closing

It's the latest business to shut down as Camp North End tenants struggle to make ends meet.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Another Camp North End location is closing up shop as Popbar announced its last day will be on Sunday.

Known for its gelato on a stick, Popbar says it's closing because its lease is ending. However, the company's NoDa location will remain open, as will the POPtruck and POPcycle. Popbar has operated the Camp North End location for four years.

To celebrate, Popbar is hosting a back-to-school bash on Saturday, Aug. 17 from 10:30 a.m. until 2 p.m.

"Thank you for all the sweet memories," the company posted on social media. "We hope to see you at the party AND at our NoDa location."

Popbar is just the latest business to close at Camp North End. Around 10 local shops have closed their doors this year, with many business owners citing a sharp downturn in foot traffic and rising rent prices

"There is just no one coming out," Samantha Ward, the owner of Wentworth & Fenn, said. "We are getting days where we will barely hit $200 and it's like, 'Oh my gosh, what is going on out there?'"
