'200 people in a pool, very few witnesses, let that sink in' | CMPD addresses violent Memorial Day weekend

Officers responded to multiple shootings, including one at a large pool party at an apartment complex. In another case, a man was found shot to death in his car.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department is addressing the gun violence that erupted in Charlotte over Memorial Day weekend.

Officers responded to multiple shootings, including one at a large pool party at an apartment complex. In another case, a man was found shot to death in his car.

Tuesday afternoon, CMPD held a news conference to discuss updates on the cases. Police say they are making progress on one of the cases, but they expressed frustration about the other case.

CMPD identified the victim of the deadly shooting as 43-year-old Ever Danilo Reyes-Romero. Investigators say he was found shot to death inside a car on Orren Court at around 9:30 p.m. on Monday.

CMPD says they believe multiple shooters were involved. Investigators expressed frustration about the lack of cooperation they were getting on the case.

“200 people in a pool, very few witnesses, let that sink in. Four different type rounds, four different caliber weapons fired into a crowd of over 200 people and not many witnesses who want to tell their story,” said CMPD Major Dave Robinson. "Is that a matter of trust of the police department or just apathy?”

CMPD says the victim of the pool party shooting is expected to survive. So far, no arrests have been made in either case.
