Catawba County man charged with killing father of 3 in road rage shooting due in court

Terrell Eugene Giddens is accused of killing a father of three and shooting at his children during a fit of road rage in October.

CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — A man charged with killing a father of three in a fit of road rage in Catawba County is expected to face a judge on Monday.

Terrell Eugene Giddens, 75, is being held without bond after police said he shot and killed 40-year-old Jeffery Guida in early October. The deadly shooting happened at the intersection of Island Point Road and North View Harbour Drive Drive in Newton on Oct. 12.

Giddens allegedly shot Guida after both men got out of their cars in the intersection. Giddens is also accused of shooting at Guida's children, who are ages 13, 11 and 2. The kids were not hurt during the incident. Giddens was arrested at his home and charged with murder and three counts of attempted first-degree murder.

Note: WCNC instituted a policy in March 2021 regarding the broadcast or posting of mugshots.

WCNC will only air or post a mugshot if the person has been formally charged with a crime and in a few other cases. The exceptions include: If it appears the person could be a danger to themselves or others or if they are wanted by authorities; to differentiate between people with a common name; if the photos could encourage more victims to come forward. The news-editorial leadership may also decide to use a mugshot based on the severity of the crime(s) committed and/or the level of public interest in the crime and ensuing criminal proceedings.

WCNC Charlotte is choosing to show the mugshot of the suspect in this case due to the nature of his charges and the public nature of the alleged crime.
