Brown was one of four people wounded in a shooting on June 8, 2024, along North Tryon Street. CMPD said an argument among a group of people in the parking lot of a business led to the shooting. Hoe reportedly went to his car to get a gun and returned to the parking lot, opening fire.

While the other three victims were hospitalized with less severe injuries, Brown had life-threatening injuries at the time. He died of his injuries about a month later
