CMPD: Man held at gunpoint outside movie theater

According to a police report, the robbery took place Saturday in the parking lot outside the Regal Stonecrest at Piper Glen.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating after a man said he was robbed at gunpoint by an unknown suspect outside a Charlotte movie theater.

According to a police report, the robbery took place around 9 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot outside the Regal Stonecrest at Piper Glen.

The report states a suspect pointed a firearm at a 41-year-old man, stealing his wallet, credit card, and driver’s license.

"Disturbing, yes, yes, I always keep my eye out, and I'm always looking over my shoulder,” Richard Benson, a frequent visitor of the area, said. “I never walk the streets here at night."

CMPD’s crime map shows most of the crimes in the area reported in the last six months were thefts.

This violent crime is now putting patrons on alert.

"Be careful,” Benson said. “Keep a watchful eye out. Don't go alone."

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact CMPD.
