Teen killed in east Charlotte shooting, CMPD says

The shooting happened on Eastcrest Drive near Central Avenue.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One person was killed in a shooting in east Charlotte on Sunday afternoon.

The shooting happened at the Ashby Gardens Apartment Homes on Eastcrest Drive just south of Central Avenue, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. The victim was later identified as 17-year-old Oscar Paisano-Perez.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Medic.

CMPD labeled the scene a homicide, but no further information has been released. Police have not shared what led to the shooting or any information about a suspect. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit Detective Jones, or people can also leave information anonymously by contacting Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or http://charlottecrimestoppers.com/.

Neighbors said they aren't entirely surprised by the shooting. One neighbor told WCNC Charlotte's Julia Kauffman he's carrying a firearm to defend himself.

"If they mess with me, I'm gonna shoot them," Earl Hue said.

Another neighbor said she often walks her dog in the area, and this incident has made her rethink her routine.

"My head's always on a swivel," Amanda said. "I'm gonna be completely honest with you ... I'm more inclined to really just walk him during the day. It's just a little scary. I keep hearing more and more about ... violence and crime uptick in the city."

The shooting comes less than two months after two men were arrested for shooting and killing a man in September at the Shadowood Apartments next door.

"It is obviously concerning but you do your best to stay out of the situation and you try your best to avoid those situations and then you're just hopefully never put in that scenario," Braedon Lamark, another neighbor, said.
