CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Editor's Note: WCNC Charlotte has chosen to use this mugshot because of the charges involved.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department says it has arrested a man accused of killing a teen in December 2023.
Officers arrested 29-year-old Shawn Taliesin Davis Jr. on Friday. After an interview, he was charged with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder. He also faces two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon, three counts of discharging a firearm into occupied property, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Davis is accused of killing 17-year-old Murahnee Johnson, who died at the scene of the shooting along Long Talon Way on Dec. 27. Another person was also wounded.
CMPD said at the time an occupied home had also been shot into, but nobody inside was hurt.
The department notes the investigation is still active. Anyone who can provide further information is asked to call (704) 432-TIPS to talk with a homicide unit detective. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers online or by calling (704) 33444-1600.
Note: WCNC instituted a policy in March 2021 regarding the broadcast or posting of mugshots.
WCNC will only air or post a mugshot if the person has been formally charged with a crime and in a few other cases. The exceptions include: If it appears the person could be a danger to themselves or others or if they are wanted by authorities; to differentiate between people with a common name; if the photos could encourage more victims to come forward. The news-editorial leadership may also decide to use a mugshot based on the severity of the crime(s) committed and/or the level of public interest in the crime and ensuing criminal proceedings.
