ROCK HILL, S.C. — A fourth person was arrested in connection with a deadly shooting at a Rock Hill block party earlier this month, police said.
Rock Hill Police announced that 20-year-old Marques Lavon Pearson, of Lancaster, was charged with accessory before the fact of murder for his alleged connection to the shooting death of Montest Mincey. Two people were killed and two others were hurt when shots rang out during a party on Southland Drive on June 1.
"We're still working on tracking down leads, it was dark so you couldn't see a lot," Michael Chavis, with Rockhill Police, told WCNC Charlotte.
A witness said they saw people wearing ski masks during the shooting.
"It felt like a war zone," the witness said. "There was shooting coming from every way."
"We still have three other people who were shot that night, unfortunately, one of them passed away," Chavis said. "We have to find out what happened to them."
Rock Hill Police arrested 19-year-old D'markieoun Ji'shae Clyburn on June 7. He is charged with murder in connection with Mincey's death. A second suspect was arrested the next day.
In response to the violence, many gun violence change advocates are continuing to push for local leaders to address the issue.
Gregg Jackson, founder of the nonprofit Heal Charlotte, said he's seen more and more people turn towards violence and he's angry at the ease with which people are pulling the trigger.
“I think we are going to fight that feeling of 'not again,'" Jackson said. "People can’t experience life, they can’t experience simple things like a block party in today’s times."
Note: WCNC instituted a policy in March 2021 regarding the broadcast or posting of mugshots.
WCNC will only air or post a mugshot if the person has been formally charged with a crime and in a few other cases. The exceptions include: If it appears the person could be a danger to themselves or others or if they are wanted by authorities; to differentiate between people with a common name; if the photos could encourage more victims to come forward. The news-editorial leadership may also decide to use a mugshot based on the severity of the crime(s) committed and/or the level of public interest in the crime and ensuing criminal proceedings.
