Family searches for safe place to call home after Gastonia woman was shot and killed

WCNC Charlotte's Tradesha Woodard spoke to the victim's mother.

GASTONIA, N.C. — A home in Gastonia holds dark memories.

There's no light unless they were shining through bullet holes, a reminder of Rosalie Hardy’s worst nightmare.

"I couldn’t go in there, there’s no way I could have went in there," Hardy told WCNC Charlotte's Tradesha Woodard.

Her daughter Latasha Cureton was shot while sleeping on Monday, June 10.

Photos provided to WCNC Charlotte by the family appear to show numerous bullet holes in the front door. Another photo shows where a bullet seemingly struck a light switch.

As Cureton took her last breath, her kids and family watched. It left behind an image they’ll never forget. A mom of six conquered by a bullet -- a family scarred for life.

"One of the older boys that was upstairs yelled 'Mommy got hit,'" Hardy said. "I'm not supposed to be burying my kids they’re supposed to be burying me."

Hardy said as they work to heal and find peace, they're also looking for a safe space to lay their heads.

"The process has not been good so far. [We're] in and out of hotel rooms," Hardy said.

As Hardy works to find a new place to call home for her and her grandkids, the family is asking for the community's help too, with hopes of erasing the painful memories with better memories.

"I don’t want to go back there at all," Hardy sai.
