15-year-old dies from injuries after shooting in north Charlotte, officers say

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department says the shooting happened Friday night. The department learned about the victim's death on Sunday.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A homicide investigation is underway after a shooting involving a teenager in north Charlotte from Friday, Feb. 18, authorities say. 

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) confirmed on Sunday a 15-year-old boy died from his injuries.

According to CMPD, officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call in the 6700 block of Mallard Park Drive on Friday just before 11 p.m. Investigators say they found the victim lying outside near an apartment complex. Medic and the Charlotte Fire Department responded to the scene. Officers say he was taken to the hospital, where he later passed away.

The victim's identity is not being released at this time, according to CMPD.

CMPD says the incident remains under investigation.
