Deadly shooting reported in northeast Charlotte hours after another one less than 2 miles away

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A deadly shooting is under investigation in northeast Charlotte several hours after another one unfolded in the area.

Medic confirmed to WCNC Charlotte it responded just before 5:40 p.m. to Tom Hunter Road near Vancouver Drive, just near the West Sugar Creek Road ramp onto I-85. The agency reported one patient had been declared dead on the scene.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department confirmed around 6 p.m. the shooting was being investigated as a homicide. Detectives said they were called for an assault with a deadly weapon, and that firefighters found the victim dead of an apparent gunshot wound.

Tuesday night's shooting unfolded several hours after another deadly shooting nearby. CMPD said the shooting that happened earlier in the day took place around 10:45 a.m. at the Woodland Hollow apartment complex, located along Arrowhead Drive near Dove Tree Lane and North Tryon Street. Both shootings happened within roughly two miles of each other.
