Charlotte murder suspect arrested in Maryland, CMPD says

Parents said the incident started when a group of kids got into a fight. Things escalated when a parent got involved.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A suspect was arrested in Maryland in connection with a shooting that killed a Charlotte father in early October, police announced on Thursday.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to a shooting at the Seigle Point apartments around 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8. When officers arrived, they found an abandoned car and multiple shell casings at the complex. While officers were investigating, they received a second call about a shooting victim at the intersection of North Davidson and East 12th Street. The victim, 32-year-old Jamario Caldwell, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“It was just, really jarring to me to kind of experience that," Carlos Jackson, who lives in the area, said.

Parents said the incident started as a fight between a group of kids. Things escalated when one of the parents got involved.

"It’s unfortunate that people are resolving issues with gunfire that are then turning into homicides that have real victims behind the scenes," CMPD Maj. Bret Balamucki said. “It’s not just the person dead, but it’s the person’s family, their children, their friends, you know, the impact on the entire community.”

On Nov. 5, CMPD and investigators in Prince George County, Maryland, took 39-year-old Corey Livingston into custody. Livingston was interviewed by homicide detectives and is facing extradition to Mecklenburg County for murder.

Caldwell's family was notified of the arrest. It's unclear if CMPD is looking for additional suspects in the case. Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to call Charlotte Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600. Witnesses may also call 704-432-TIPS to speak directly with homicide investigators.
