NEWTON, North Carolina — The man accused of shooting at police officers in Newton is expected to face a judge.
Keon Leach, 24, was released from the hospital Wednesday afternoon and immediately taken into custody.
He was seriously hurt after he was shot by a Newton Police officer on July 8, according to the Newton Police Department. Police said they were responding to a call when they saw a man with a gun, and while trying to get the man to drop the gun, he fired at officers. They then shot back, hitting the man, after a brief standoff.
Leach now faces a number of felony charges in connection to the shooting.
The officers involved in the shooting are on administrative leave pending the investigation, which is the standard protocol.
