CHARLOTTE, N.C. — After a weeks-long investigation into a deadly shooting in east Charlotte, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department have a suspect in custody.
On Dec. 6, CMPD responded to Snow Lane shortly after 7:30 p.m. Sunday and found a victim, since identified as 64-year-old Rickie Burris.
Burris was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting.
According to CMPD, detectives identified a suspect in the case and got arrest warrants for that person.
On Tuesday, 43-year-old Matthew Cornelius Whitstyne turned himself into the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and was charged with murder. He is being held with no bond.
Whitstyne had his first appearance on Thursday and is set to next appear in court on Jan. 12, 2024.
