Teen charged in deadly golf cart crash showed 'reckless disregard' with speed, police say

Investigators said the suspect was speeding on the wrong side of the road when he crashed into a golf cart, killing 15-year-old Marlie Sullivan.

ROCK HILL, S.C. — A 16-year-old was arrested in connection with a wrong-way crash that killed a 15-year-old Rock Hill girl who was riding on a golf cart, police said.

Rock Hill police responded to a crash on Laurel Creek Drive around 10 p.m. on July 25. When officers arrived, they were told six people were on the golf cart when it was hit by a Honda CRV that was going the wrong way. One of the riders, 15-year-old Marlie Sullivan, died at the scene. Three others were taken to the hospital with injuries.

Investigators determined the Honda was excessively speeding with the driver showing a "reckless disregard" for other drivers. The teen, who hasn't been identified due to his age, was charged with reckless homicide.

No further information was released.
