BLOWING ROCK, N.C. — Officials are searching for information about a crime where an American flag was stolen off a Tweetsie Railroad train a week before Independence Day celebrations around the country.
Officials with the Watauga County Sheriff's Office are asking for the public's help after a thirty-foot by fifty-foot American flag was ripped or cut, and then taken from, the Tweetsie Railroad train trestle over the weekend.
The theft happened between 10 p.m. on Friday, June 28 and 1 a.m. on Saturday, June 29.
North Carolina's beloved train-themed amusement park in the Blue Ridge Mountains opened for the 2024 season at the beginning of April, debuting some new rides, such as "The Bullwhip," a pendulum swing ride that rotates 360 degrees.
This year, Tweetsie also put into place a new chaperone policy, where visitors 15 years or young must be accompanied by an adult who is at least 21 years old.
Authorities are asking that anyone with information about the crime to call Crime Stoppers at 828-268-6959. People can also submit anonymous tips by texting NCTIP plus your tip to 274637 (CRIMES).
