CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A teen is charged with killing a man near a west Charlotte gas station more than two weeks ago, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said.
CMPD said the 17-year-old was identified as the suspect during its investigation into the Feb. 15, 2024, shooting. He turned himself in Wednesday after warrants were obtained for his arrest.
The teen is now facing a murder charge and is in the custody of the North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice.
CMPD said 24-year-old Jaziyah Joseph Haigbea-Boone died at the scene along Wilkinson Boulevard near Midland Avenue the night of the shooting. It was the third deadly shooting in Charlotte in less than 12 hours at the time.
Note: WCNC instituted a policy in March 2021 regarding the broadcast or posting of mugshots.
WCNC will only air or post a mugshot if the person has been formally charged with a crime and in a few other cases. The exceptions include: If it appears the person could be a danger to themselves or others or if they are wanted by authorities; to differentiate between people with a common name; if the photos could encourage more victims to come forward. The news-editorial leadership may also decide to use a mugshot based on the severity of the crime(s) committed and/or the level of public interest in the crime and ensuing criminal proceedings.
If your loved one was impacted by this incident, WCNC Charlotte hopes to make this process less painful with our More Than A Number initiative.
