Cabarrus County Schools vote to close local elementary school in redistricting plan

The board voted 4-3 Monday night to close an elementary school as part of a redistricting plan to fix overcrowding issues.

CONCORD, N.C. — On Monday, Jan. 29, Cabarrus County Schools had a public hearing where they heard from local families about a proposed decision to close Beverly Hills Elementary School. 

A week later, the school board voted to approve closing the school.

Many families expressed their concerns in that hearing last week -- saying the Title One School is an anchor in the community and the decision would have an impact on disadvantaged families.

Closing the school is just be one part of a larger redistricting plan in the works for CCS and more students than just those at Beverly Hills could be affected. 

School leaders voted 4-3 Monday, Feb. 5 to close the school. 

A final vote on the redistricting plan is set for next Monday, Feb. 12.
