CHESTER COUNTY, S.C. — A firearm was found at Chester High School, prompting a hold protocol, according to the Chester County Sheriff's Office. The hold protocol has since been lifted and normal school operations resumed.
As part of the investigation, there was a large law enforcement presence at the school, but officials say there is no immediate danger to students at this time.
Officials have not confirmed where the gun was found, or if anyone is facing charges. Chester County Schools said any questions regarding the investigation would be answered by the sheriff's office.
A district spokesperson confirmed that a hold protocol differs from a lockdown, in that students and staff must clear the halls until further notice. Under a lockdown, everyone must stay in place and out of sight, with lights off until given an all-clear. A lockdown also completely shuts off the building, not allowing anyone to enter or exit.
While the hold protocol has been lifted, school officials said additional deputies will be present during the school's dismissal to ensure everyone's safety.
WCNC Charlotte is working to learn more about the investigation.
