CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The finale for NBC's "America's Got Talent: Fantasy League" aired Monday night, and a Charlotte act was hoping they would walk away with a win. Sainted Trap Choir was among the 10 final acts. The winners were crowned during a two-hour finale on WCNC Charlotte Monday night.
Sainted made it to the top four in the finale before the group was voted off, leaving three acts left vying to win the top prize.
The choir left with an optimistic mindset, saying that the competition to them was about "knowing that it is not over."
"We’re so excited about the finale!" the group said in an Instagram post ahead of Monday's episode. "We fought hard this season, and we are hopeful that it will pay off."
In the final round of the competition, which aired on Feb. 12, the group performed a cover of Madonna's song "Like a Prayer" and thrilled both the crowd and the judges.
"I have seen how hard this group has worked," judge Simon Cowell said after their performance. "We’ve thrown them some tough songs and challenges and they’ve embraced the challenges."
That episode came just one day after Sainted joined famed soul singer Andra Day in a performance of "Lift Every Voice and Sing," more commonly known as the Black national anthem, at the start of the Super Bowl.
Sainted first formed in 2020 and features over 25 members. The group made it to the semifinals in season 18 of "America's Got Talent," which aired on WCNC Charlotte in 2023. Then, for AGT's "Fantasy League" spin-off, Cowell, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel, Terry Crews, and Mel B each formed a "Dream Team" made up of acts from across various "AGT" seasons. Sainted is on Cowell's team.
They were given an automatic spot in the finals after a performance of "Purple Rain" by Prince that led Cowell to press the Golden Buzzer.
The winning act gets $250,000 grand prize.
