Charlotte teen makes it onto 'The Voice'

This is the first season where coaches can use the Coach Replay button, which allows them to add a singer to their team after the performance ends.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte teenager made his way onto NBC's "The Voice" in stunning fashion.

Jaylen Dunham said he's been singing since he was 2 years old. He performed a rendition of Beyoncé's "Listen" for the judges, but didn't get anyone to hit their button to add him to their team.

When the coaches turned around after the performance and saw the 14-year-old standing in front of them, they were all shocked -- prompting coach Gwen Stefani to get out of her chair and go hug Dunham.

"I've had some really weird ones when you turn around and you're like, 'That's not who just sang that,' but that was the best one so far -- thank you for that," Stefani said.

Coach Michael Bublé said he can't imagine how much Dunham will improve if he's singing the way he is now.

Stefani ultimately decided to use her Coach Replay button to add him to her team. This is the first season where coaches can use this button, which allows them to add a singer to their team after the performance part of the audition ends.

"My favorite part about his voice was when he was coming in and singing in his really low, soft voice -- he had a lot of control, and to think that is live on stage at 14 years old, I can't wait to see what happens next," Stefani said.
