Sore throats, sour tummies: What's going around

At Novant Health Mint Hill Family Medicine, cases of upper respiratory infections are on the rise. Doctors are also seeing cases of stomach virus and sore throats.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — It's that time of the year when lots of things are in the air that can make you sick, especially in the Carolinas.

If your little one has a sore throat or sour tummy, they're not alone.

Let's start in Cabarrus County at Novant Health Pediatrics Harrisburg. Doctors report seeing lots of viral colds and a few cases of croup which is an infection of the upper airway. It impacts breathing and can cause a barking-like cough. 

At Novant Health Mint Hill Family Medicine, cases of upper respiratory infections are on the rise. Doctors are also seeing cases of stomach virus and sore throats. 

We're not in the clear when it comes to allergies either. Patients are popping up with complaints of itchy, watery eyes and sneezing.

At Novant Health Pediatrics Denver, doctors still seeing some cases of hand, foot. and mouth disease, and that's not all. Doctors say there are various viral illnesses going around and blames that on not only on the start of school but also on the weather change.

We're talking lots of common colds and fevers as well as a spike in bacterial ear infections and some strep throat. 

Doctors at the Denver office say at this point they haven't had any cases of the flu in the clinic but feel it's coming soon.
