FORT MILL, S.C. — The Anne Springs Close Greenway announced plans to replace two bridges with construction expected to be complete by next spring.
The area near the road bridge has been closed off since it collapsed in January due to what greenway officials called a "structural failure." The collapse happened during heavy rain.
The greenway also announced it will replace the popular swinging bridge across Steele Creek. The new bridges will connect the Adventure Road and Blue Star entrances and serve as a main thoroughfare for hiking, dog walking and biking at the greenway.
Both bridges will be built above the 100-year floodplain to mitigate any future damage caused by flash flooding, officials said.
Some trails on the property will be rerouted once the bridges are finished. Construction is scheduled to start in the fall.
