CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One person is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after a fire at Sharon Place Condominiums in south Charlotte, the Charlotte Fire Department said.
The fire was set on purpose, investigators said on Saturday.
Shortly before 7 p.m. on Friday, Charlotte Fire was alerted about a structure fire on Sharon Road West in south Charlotte.
At the scene of the fire, heavy smoke and flames were coming out of the second floor of the Sharon Place Condominiums. A few minutes later, a second alarm was struck to bring in more resources to help control the fire.
Firefighters then received information about an occupant trapped in the building. They were able to rescue the occupant, who was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

No other injuries have been reported from the fire and the firefighters controlled the flames in 51 minutes.
CFD says eight units were affected and the fire caused extensive damage to the building.
