College graduates are ready to work, but there's one thing they can't give employers

A new report also found that young workers care more about salary than paid time off and remote work.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Millions of college seniors are graduating and hitting the job market this summer, but experts say many young people have unrealistic expectations of what's out there.

For most new graduates, the No. 1 thing they think about with their first job is ... their next job. Experts say if young, new hires don't get a promotion early on, they're more likely to leave that company quickly.

A new report also found that young workers care more about salary than paid time off and remote work. But one difficult thing new graduates are facing is how much experience employers are looking for with entry-level positions.

More companies say they're looking for candidates who have at least one internship and real-world experience under their belt, something many graduates can't offer.

But employers are also providing more benefits to new hires. Some companies target the stressors graduates had in college by offering mental health resources, as well as loan repayments for long-tenured employees.
