STATESVILLE, N.C. — One man is dead and another person was hurt in a crash in Statesville on Sunday morning, according to the NC State Highway Patrol.
The deadly crash happened on Old Mountain Road at Rumple Hill Drive around 9:30 a.m.
James Patrick Sheehan, 76, died at the scene. He was from Cornelius.
Sheehan was driving a 2019 Chevrolet Blazer and attempted to turn left onto Rumple Hill Drive and turned in front of an oncoming 2002 Ford Econoline van, highway patrol officials said.
The driver of the van had minor injuries.
Officials said Sheehan was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
"The initial investigation does not indicate impairment or speed to be contributing factors," a highway patrol spokesperson said.
The road was closed in the area for about three hours, Sunday, during the on-scene investigation.
Over the weekend, another person was killed while driving a motorcycle in Statesville.
